Apply for Canadian Immigration for Skilled Professionals
It is worthy of note that the Federal Skilled Worker immigration application is assessed on the basis of applicant’s ability to become economically stable upon immigration to Canada. Any applicant who is not considered to be able to settle down successful and integrate productively into the Canadian system will not have the opportunity to become a Canadian permanent resident via the Skilled Worker Program.
Since January 1st 2015, all Federal Skilled Worker Applications are being processed through the Canada Express Entry Immigration Selection System. All who are eligible in the Federal Skilled worker category are required to first submit an expression of interest in migrating to Canada and this is done by submitting an Express entry.
Eligibility Criteria
In order for an applicant to be eligible for Canada immigration visa for Permanent Residency through the Federal Skilled worker program, the applicant must possess:
- At least 1 year of continuous full-time or an equivalent paid work experience for the past 10 years in an occupation reckoned as Skilled occupation under the National Occupation Classification Skill lever 0, A or B; or
- A qualification for an Arranged Employment in Canada which is certified by the Labour Market Impact Assessment together with a full time permanent work in Canada; and
- Sufficient proficiency in any of the two Canada’s official languages which is French or English.
In addition to this, the Federal Skilled Worker (Professional) candidates must have 67 points, at least, in the points test based on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s selection factors. The factors for selection for migration to Canada according to IRCC are listed below:
- Education: For formal education, up to 25 points can be awarded to applicants
- Language Skills: There are 28 points possible for language skills. 24 points for the first official language and 4 points for the second.
- Work Experience: There are 15 possible points for paid, skilled work experience which has been acquired in the last 10 years. Under this factor, the applicant is expected to have a minimum of 9 points to qualify.
- Age: Candidates can have up to 12 points for their age at the time application is being submitted.
- Arranged Employment: Candidates can be given up to 10 points if they have a job hiring in Canada that satisfies certain requirements.
- Adaptability: Based on a set of factors that can show that a candidate will be able to adapt in Canada up to 10 points can be awarded.
After the eligibility of any candidate has been determined, he or she must show proof of sufficient funds availability which will be for the purposes of provision for his or herself and for the dependents that come with them to Canada. The candidate and the dependents must all go through medical examination and security clearances which is part of the process of immigration to Canada.
It should be noted that the Canadian government understands that points awarded under the Skilled worker selection system will not always reflect accurately the chances of the applicant to successful get established in Canada. This is why the Citizenship and Immigration Canada officials are allowed to use an alternate method of evaluation of an application using the concept known as “Substituted Evaluation”. This method allows the official to evaluate a candidate using their own instincts. The method also allows the official to refuse or accept the applicant’s application regardless of the number of points he or she must have achieved.
