Resident Visa

Skilled Employment

In the context of Resident visas, skilled employment refers to an employment that is endorsed by a New Zealand employer as skilled or a current work with a New Zealand employer that is categorized as skilled. This means that your employer is the determinant as to whether you have required skills or not. Immigration New Zealand makes use of a set of Skilled Occupations and there is a description that follows each occupation. You are seen as skilled if your occupation and skills matches the description attached to the occupation in the list. Also, you must have gained some kind of relevant work experience in this occupation and this is judged by:

-          Completion of recognized relevant qualification; or a

-          Recognized relevant work experience; or

-          Completion of recognized qualifications and work experience

There are basically five skill levels and occupations 1, 2 and 3 are the only ones seen as skilled for the purposes of resident visas. If your occupation is not on the list of Skilled Occupations, you are not qualified.

Relevant Work Experience

A work experience is classified as relevant if:

-          The experience is useful in the employment being offered; and/or

-          The employment would probably not have been offered to you or the job description wouldn’t have been possible for you to fulfill without such experience

Recognized Work Experience

A work experience is said to be recognized and points are issued for it if:

-          The experience is relevant to the skilled employment in New Zealand

-          It is relevant to the educational qualification

-          It is a required experience to gain specialist or technical or managerial positions and experience relevant to the occupation

So do you have a relevant or recognized work experience? The first step to knowing that is consulting with New Zealand immigration consultants in Dubai.
